RV Camping along the Methow River

I wanted to write a new hub about our very first RV trip of the year. It was during the Memorial day weekend and was a blast. We went to Winthrop, Washington. This quaint country town is located about 4 hours drive east on Hiway 20, from Oak Harbor where we live. We actually had two other couples who joined us in their 5th wheels. We camped right on the Methow River between Winthrop and Twisp. It was so relaxing and beautiful. Of course we had all you would need, power, water and septic, when we go camping we really rough it - hey. Anyway, it was Memorial Day weekend and of course the park was full.

We took turns cooking the dinner meal, one night was BBQ hamburgers hot dogs, etc. The other was steak with guacamole (if you haven’t ever tried that it is absolutely awesome). Then one night it was a fish fry with chips, oysters and clams on the BBQ grill. It was great.

We visited the town, walked around grabbed a hamburger at a local restaurant located right on the river, then we did some shopping in the quaint town. The town was really busy with tourists and a lot of activity going on. I took some photos of the wooden statues that appear all around town. We also stopped at a farmers market that was set up in town – there were so many talented and crafty people. I really enjoy seeing what crafters are up to these days. I loved the "fun fur crotchet flip flops" very clever.

On Sunday we went to the local Winthrop Memorial Day Rodeo. We packed our lawn chairs and headed out to the rodeo with our friends. It was great. I had been to one many years ago in Idaho. I was able to capture some cool action shots of the rodeo riders, the Jr. bull riders and the little ones riding sheep. It was hilarious to see these little 5 and 6 year olds come out of the shoot riding a sheep holding on for dear life. They also had a chicken chasing contest for the little kids. They threw a chicken which had a $10 bill strapped around it’s leg out into the arena and whoever could catch it would get the $10.00. There were hundreds of kids running around chasing this chicken, we got a few laughs during that event.

The whole show was very entertaining and a lot of fun, so I decided to make a slide show to share with you. So sit back – relax grab an ice tea and enjoy the show. You all come back – ya hear!

Now, you have to understand that we are presently on an RV trip in Alaska. We've been gone since June 30th, we've visited British Columbia, the Yukon Territory, Anchorage, Seward, and are now in the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. This just proves that I am so totally "addicted" to hubbing. I brought my lap top and photos for this hub to work on along the trip. Internet and cell phone reception have been very hard to find in some of these smaller towns. There are so many beautiful lakes, mountains, rivers and streams to photograph - God's masterpieces never stop amazing me. It is just an added blessing when we are able to get wifi. So when I get back to Oak Harbor around the end of July, be sure to look for my "Alaska trip" hub - it should be full of adventures and amazing photography. Cheers to all!

I use to live up that way...Olympia area for about six years. Saw all that part of the country. On the days that it did not rain, it is incredibly beautiful and there are tons of nooks and crannies as you so adeptly described above. It's kind of nice to go out in July and need a sleeve. Thanks for sharing that experience! WB

Very nice hub. This little town reminds me of Cloudcroft New Mexico. Its very quaint and country looking and the mountains surrounding them are very beautiful. Looks like you are having a great time with your RV. Keep safe. Cheers.

Fantastic. Loved all the photos. We just got a camper. Now the gas prices suck!

That will not stop us. We will find some places closer to home for now

gr82bme - thanks so much for your comments. Gas prices are unreasonable these days, but that doesn't stop us either. When you add up the cost of a motel and meals, etc. well the RV beats every time. Have fun RVing....:)
