Pacific Northwest Lighthouses

Last year my husband and I traveled the Oregon coast on our yearly vacation. Our trip started by driving to Sacramento where we met our friends. They have an RV also and they were going to follow us up to the Oregon coast. This happened to be the hottest time of year, over 110 degrees when we arrived. So by the time we arrived everyone was ready to hit the coast and the cooler weather.

I took pictures of most of the coastal lighthouses and thought you might enjoy these. They are all a must see if you get the chance. Each is unique in their own right and stand in all their Glory guiding the ships to shore along the coastal towns. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did taking the photos.

The lighthouses in Washington State are: Admiralty Head lighthouse located in Coupeville Washington, next to Ft. Casey State Park. The Mukilteo Lighthouse which is in Mukilteo, Washington next to the ferry terminal which takes you to the southern tip of Whidbey Island - at Clinton. Northhead Lighthouse is located at the northern tip of Washington State in Ilwaco, Washington. The views from this lighthouse are amazing. It is a long walk to get to the lighthouse but do not despair it is so worth it. The Lime Kiln Lighthouse is located on San Juan Island, in a little town called Friday Harbor, you can only get there by boat or ferry from Anacortes to see this lighthouse. What a great town to visit, lots of great food and shopping to be found here. Then Pt. Wilson Lighthouse is located in Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula, you have to also take a ferry at Coupeville to visit this lighthouse which is next to  Ft. Warden State park, so there is lots to do there too.

The Oregon lighthouses are all along the coast, the ones that I have had the privilege of photographing are: Cape Blanco which is near Port Orford. Cape Arago, near Coos Bay and North Bend. Umpqua River, which is near Reedsport, Heceta Head, which is between Florence and Yachats. The Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head, are located near Newport, this is a very nice little town quaint and awesome places to stop and browse in. Cape Meares is located near Tillamook, which is where the Tillamook cheese factory is located. This is another must visit place. Tillamook Head is off the coast on a rock near Cannon Beach. When we captured the photo of Tillamook Head photograph we were actually in a helicopter trip along the coast. It was so awesome getting to view the coast from the sky. I also included an Ariel photo of Canon Beach so you could see how spectacular it looks from that perspective.
